September is Falls Prevention Month

Every year, the Grassroots Organization for the Well-being of Seniors in Montgomery County (GROWS) together with our partners sponsor events during Falls Prevention Month to promote awareness of the dangers of falls among older adults. Falls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths of older adults, the primary reason for older adult injury emergency department visits, and the most common cause of hospital admissions for trauma. 47 states and many professional associations and organizations collaborate to bring greater awareness to the issue for communities across the country.  In Montgomery County, GROWS and our partners sponsor over 25 programs and events designed to assist senior citizens and their service providers in preventing falls and accessing appropriate care if needed.  For a list of participating organizations please contact ----, or see ------.)

GROWS facilitates public awareness about vital services for seniors through a variety of structured and informal networking opportunities for service providers and caregivers as well as through publications and guides.
